Arts Award
Arts Award is a new scheme that values, celebrates and rewards the views, artistic practice and leadership of young people who get involved in the arts.
Arts Award, aimed at 11 to 25 year olds, will be especially valuable to those young people who find it hard to get accreditation through formal education. Arts Award celebrates the creative progress made by young people, not just their artistic skills. It is flexible engough to fit around the busy life of a young person.
The scheme has been developd through a pioneering relationship between Arts Council england and Trinity Guildhall. It can be taken at bronze, silver and gold levels, which are accredited at levels 1,2 and 3 on the National Qualifications Framework.
Bronze
Young people take part in and share their skills and interests with an arts group. It is works well for 11 to 14 year-olds.
Silver
At this level, young people identify a personal challenge, make a plan and follow it to acheive their goal. It includes researching their local arts scene, reviewing events, getting involved, also planning and leading an arts project and sharing skills with their peers. This level works well for 14 - 16 year-olds.
Gold
Young artists are encouraged to show their originality. They are expected to develop their arts pactice more independently, and keep a portfolio recording their aspirations and progress. This level will work well for young people over 16 years old.
Young People will be able to take up the Arts Award challenge at an Arts Award Centre in their area. In Derby this is Da Vinci Community College, and DARTworks. Contact Kim Johnson for a list of Derbyshire Centres.
