Extended schools - and the arts

Extended Services in and around schools

Schools are developing new ways of meeting the needs of children, their families and the wider community, by offering new services and activities.

The schools who are taking part in this scheme are working towards providing access to a range of services and activities. These include sport, the arts, access to computers and other ICT facilities, parenting support and childcare. The aim of this scheme is that ALL children and their families will have access to these new services and activities by 2010, and that they will be offered all year round, between 8am and 6pm. They might take place in schools or in other suitable community venues.

Schools will be looking for artists with skills and experience of working with children, young people and community groups, and will look for a wide range of visual and performing arts, such as music, drama, arts and crafts, and dance.
