Children love the drama and conflict in her story, which always ends with a happy resolution, where good triumphs over evil.

‘An Untouchable King’ is an old Indian folk tale rewritten for children, fitting to the needs of the modern age, when people, including children finding it increasingly hard to make choices between good and evil.  It is a story about the downfall of a king and his ultimate restoration to glory. Though he was a good king, he was too ambitious, which turned him, eventually, into a vain and arrogant king. He lost everything in his life for his folly. But after a long time, through hard suffering, he learnt his lessons and was rewarded for his past good deeds. A child will get easily hooked, as the story unfolds, emphasizing every stage of the king’s misadventure, and will breathe a sigh of relief, when, he finds, at the end the king is happily restored to his glory. Twelve brilliantly drawn illustrations run side by side all along, highlighting the eventful course of the whole episode.

Ashoka likes to write more books for children, by exploring old themes and making them popular, adaptable to the needs of the modern time, in her unique style of presentation, where words and pictures talk together in unison.
